Burnham-On-Sea fire station hosts motorbike safety training day

-

Dozens of local motorcyclists have taken part in an advanced training day in Burnham-On-Sea.

Over 30 bikers joined the event at Burnham-On-Sea Fire Station this week which was organised by Cheddar Valley Advanced Motorcyclists to improve safety.

Nick Schroeter, Chief Observer at Cheddar Valley Advanced Motorcyclists, said: “This was our first training day of this type to give information about safety.”

“It included rider training and observed rides where motorcyclists were taken out and observed to refresh their skills, alongside classroom presentations.”

“This was our first training day and we hope to schedule them more often on a quarterly basis so we refresh the skills of our members and also associates who want to take IAM tests from the Institute of Advanced Motoring.”

“We kept this first event internal to our group but we’d like to extend the training to offer it to other IAM groups in the area and to members of the public in the future.”

“We are very fortunate to have great training facilities at Burnham Fire Station where we can use our training bike and also run classroom sessions.”

Fire officer Dick Solomon added: “This was great joint working because we are part of Somerset Road Safety and it’s in our interests to promote road safety at all levels.”

“Motorcycling is a subject that we are actively interested in with regards to the safety of the riders. Anything that promotes safety and better tuition and riding is something we are keen to support. We are interested in encouraging safety.”
