Hundreds of people are expected to attend the funeral of former Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Mayor and war veteran Neville Jones OBE today (Thursday).

Neville, a well-known face about Burnham and Highbridge, died peacefully at his home on August 16th at the age of 94.

His funeral will be held at St Andrew’s Church in Burnham at 1pm today.

Tributes to him will be paid to him during the service by many of the groups where he was involved.

Burnham and Highbridge’s current Mayor, Cllr Michael Clarke, said: “Neville put his heart and soul into Burnham and Highbridge – he pushed and pushed for improvements in both towns over the years. He will be missed by many across our two towns, having been a big part of many local groups, and involved with all aspects of our local community.”

The Leader of Sedgemoor District Council, Cllr Duncan McGinty, added: “Neville Jones was a larger-than-life character who felt passionately for Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge. Neville fought hard for what he believed and his long career in local government had a lasting influence on the local area we have today. Neville commanded a great deal of respect both far and wide; he was one of a kind and will be sadly missed.”
