Postponed: Saturday’s opera show at Apex Park halted by weather alert

-

An outdoor screening of a powerful Tchaikovsky opera at Highbridge’s Apex Park has been postponed this Saturday (August 20th) due to the threat of severe weather.

A big screen was due to be set up in the park for Garsington Opera to live-screen its production of Eugene Onegin in the open air on Saturday evening.

However, in light of Saturday’s severe weather warning issued by the Met Office, the organisers have postponed the performance until the autumn.

“Due to the very adverse weather forecast with high winds and rain, the partners who are organising the free event in Apex Park have regrettably taken the decision to postpone the open-air screening of Eugene Onegin in Apex Park this Saturday,” said a spokesman.

“Following the Met Office weather warnings of gusts of up to 45 mph in Burnham-on-Sea from 0700 – 2100 hrs on Saturday and the nature of the outdoor event it would not be safe for us to go ahead with the event.”

“The open-air screening of Garsington Opera’s Eugene Onegin will be rescheduled to an alternate date in the autumn. We’d like to give our apologies to everyone who was planning on coming to the event however we hope you understand the reasoning and will join us for the rescheduled date. We will be in touch with a new event date soon.”
