Sea rescue exercise for crews next to Burnham-On-Sea's Pier

Crews from Burnham-On-Sea's Coastguard and BARB Search & Rescue conducted a unique sea training exercise besides the town's pier this week.

As part of the two groups' water rescue training, they carried out the rescue of a 'casualty' stuck in the water, as pictured here.

Burnham Coastguard Station Officer Dave Welland said: "The sea conditions were quite rough so we took the opportunity to rehearse a huddle rescue and stretcher recovery in the water next to the Pavilion."

"Conditions like this provide a great opportunity to practice in the types of rough water that we would be expected to rescue a person from."

The exercise attracted onlookers as seafront walkers watched the exercise underway on Wednesday evening.

The two groups will be among those taking part in Burnham's annual emergency services day on Sunday August 7th.
