Burnham-On-Sea Police have seized three vehicles in a crackdown on motorists driving without insurance this week.

Officers have arrested two drivers following the seizure of cars in Burnham and Highbridge as part of an ongoing operation.

“One offender has been reported for having no driving licence, no insurance or MOT, while another has been arrested for drink driving, having a pointed-bladed article in a public place, and having no insurance,” a police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“A third vehicle was seized as a result of a male running off from a vehicle which had been followed by the Police in Highbridge Quay. Enquiries are ongoing into identifying the driver at this time.”

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed along roads in the Burnham-On-Sea area are helping police to identify illegal vehicles.

“Using our ANPR technology system around Burnham, Highbridge and Brean, local Police are proactively targeting uninsured drivers. We ask that anyone who has information about uninsured or drink driving offences should call the Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
