Theft of Poppy Appeal box: Brean villagers rally round to raise money

Villagers in Brean have rallied round to raise funds to replace the money in a stolen Poppy Appeal collection box.

We first reported here that Burnham-On-Sea Police had arrested a woman after the theft of a Poppy Appeal collection box in Brean last week.

Burnham Police were called to Brean's McColls store in South Road on Thursday November 10th when staff reported the charity box had been taken.

Local Poppy Appeal Organiser Ruth Crosby said: "There has been lots of support from shocked residents in Brean after the theft of the collection box. The extra donations have been given to the Poppy Appeal and we thank all for their support."

Police spokeswoman Niamh Byrne told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We were called to a shop in South Road, Brean, at around 4.20pm to reports of the theft of a charity tin. A 37-year-old woman was later arrested and reported for summons for the offence."

It's understood that the woman was arrested at a holiday park in the village.
