Burnham-On-Sea’s Railway Heritage Group was given a funding boost by a group of sponsored walkers on Saturday (August 6th).

The Little Helpers, a local community group, held a successful walk from Highbridge Railway Station to the rail buffers in Burnham’s Pier Street.

“Considering it was our first event, it was a huge success and we managed to raise an impressive £193.21 for the Burnham-On-Sea Railway Heritage Group,” said the group’s Kayleigh Marie.

“Our walk started at around 11.30am from the train station and we made our way through the Apex, down Marine Drive and Old Station Approach to the seafront where we were met by Ann Popham from the Heritage Group.”

“We then had a lovely picnic on the pier. The kids were wonderfully behaved and altogether walked around about two miles in their Little Helpers hats and T-shirts.”

Ann Popham thanked the walkers at the end of the event, handing them postcards of the railway buffers, and said: “We are all excited about this – they did a very good job and we thank each of them.”

The Little Helpers are now looking forward to their next event, The Big Family Picnic, to be held in Apex Park on August 24th from 11am-4pm. More information is available here.
