Volunteers from Secret World Wildlife Rescue and Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue teamed up to retrieve an injured swan from a lake in Bridgwater on Saturday (July 2nd).

A member of the public raised the alarm after seeing the swan struggling in Dunwear Ponds on the outskirts of Bridgwater with several injuries.

Secret World asked BARB’s crew for help in reaching the injured bird using its inshore rescue boat.

Secret World’s wildlife expert Graeme Thompson was taken out onto the lake to retrieve the female swan, as pictured here.

The swan was taken away for treatment at Secret World’s base in East Huntspill where it is receiving the help of carers.

Local resident Lynda Wemyss said: “I saw the swan in difficulty and immediately called out Secret World. The response from BARB and Graeme was wonderful and I just hope the bird makes a swift recovery.”

Later in the day, Secret World and BARB were also called to Lakeside Holiday Park in Burnham to try and reach a separate injured bird.

Secret World thanked the boat crews for their assistance. BARB says it is always happy to help to try and avoid members of the public putting their lives in danger by attempting to try and reach animals in water.
