Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s School is celebrating this week after winning the 7th Sedgemoor Schools Primary Swimming Gala for a seventh year running.

Held at Burnham’s Swim & Sports Academy, schools from across the district took part in a series of races over the course of an afternoon.

Co-organiser Sara Cox-Conklin tols Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We would like to say a huge thank you to all the Heads, teachers and support staff for making the 7th Sedgemoor Schools Primary Swimming Gala such a great success.”

“The Academy could obviously not run this event without their support and we cannot thank you enough for allowing your swimmers the opportunity to take part.”

“We were extremely proud to watch first-hand the passion the swimmers had for racing and ‘giving it a go’, whether they touched first or last they represented themselves, the school and the community impeccably.”

“Without a doubt the standard and speed of swimming is getting faster and faster every year.”

“The atmosphere in the pool hall, and spectator gallery was once again unbelievable – the support from your teams family and friends was the loudest I have heard in over seven years!”

“It was fantastic to see so much community spirit with as much cheer and support for our fifth place swimmers as for our first-place award winners.”

“Congratulations must go to Brent Knoll, fielding a full and strong team after a five year absence from the championships. With a win in the Year 3 Mixed medley relay, and 2 individual wins, they will certainly be a force to be reckoned with over the next few years.”

“Churchfield was very strong this year, going head to head with Brent Knoll throughout the gala, and getting faster and faster as the gala went on. Capturing a superb win in the girls Yr 6 Breastroke, and a total of 7 x 2nd place finishes, they competed well to secure 4th place.”

“St Andrew’s B got off to a great start, battling fiercely with St Joseph’s. With two wins in the girls Year 4 races, backed up with 15 x 2nd place finishes, St Andrews captured a very strong 3rd Place.”

“A fantastic performance was given by St Joseph’s swimmers, with 8 victories and 9 second places, securing the runners up position for 2016.”

“And so, to our winners for a phenomenal seventh year in a row – the incredibly talented team of swimmers from St Andrew’s Junior School who got 27 1st places and an outstanding points total of 180! Congratulations St Andrew’s, our Sedgemoor School Swimming Champions for 2016.”

The overall points totals were St Andrew’s: 180 points, St Joseph’s: 133 points, St Andrew’s B: 121 points, Churchfields: 94 points, Brent Knoll: 87 points.
