Dozens of tap dancers from Burnham-On-Sea joined a nationwide bid to break a world record and raise funds for Children In Need at the weekend.

The group from the DanceFit Academy on the Westmans Trading Estate in Burnham’s Love Lane were among hundreds of dance groups across the UK taking part in the nationwide 2016 Tapathon on Sunday (November 20th).

The event aimed to set a new record for the most tappers dancing the same routine at the same time in multiple venues across the UK.

Victoria Roberts, from DanceFit, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had 33 dancers aged eight upwards taking part in our fifth Tapathon.”

“As well as raising money for Children In Need, we’re also hoping to have helped break the world record for the most tap dancers performing the same dance at the same time!”

Sunday’s event was held under the guidance of national organisation The Performers Project, which oversaw the record-breaking bid. It will be a few days before the participants find out if they’ve set beaten the old record of more than 7,500.
