-

Burnham-On-Sea shoppers have a chance to help three local groups create or improve green spaces in the area this week.

Burnham-On-Sea’s Tesco store has short-listed the Friends of Manor Gardens, West Huntspill Primary School and Seed Of Hope in Bridgwater to receive funding from the supermarket’s Bags of Help initiative.

A Tesco spokesperson explained: “Bags of Help is our exciting local grant scheme where the money raised from the government’s 5p bag charge is being used to fund a large number of local projects to create or improve green spaces in communities’ right across England, Scotland and Wales.”

“These range from building new parks and sports facilities, to woodland walks and community gardens: great places for our customers, colleagues and communities to enjoy.”

The funds to which all three charities will receive a grant are to the value of £30,000. They will receive a grant of either £8,000, £10,000 or £12,000.

The three local projects in the running for the cash are:

The Friends of Manor Gardens wants to create a Crosses Pen Green Trail with outdoor fitness equipment for the public to use.

Seed Of Hope in Bridgwater wants to open a new Spring Orchard with improved access aimed at mental health patients.

West Hunstpill School hopes to create an outdoor classroom and learning space for its pupils to get involved with nature.

Customers at Burnham-On-Sea’s Tesco store in Ben Travers Way can vote for their choice of the three local groups until Sunday 6th March by entering a counter into a collecting pot.
