£30,000 handed to ‘green’ projects in Burnham-On-Sea area by Tesco

-

Three projects to create or improve green spaces in and around Burnham-On-Sea have received £30,000 of funding this week week from the town’s Tesco store.

The supermarket has announced that shoppers at its Burnham-On-Sea store have chosen West Huntspill Primary School to receive £12,000, while Seed Of Hope in Bridgwater will get £10,000 and the Friends of Manor Gardens will get £8,000 from the supermarket’s Bags of Help scheme.

A Tesco spokesperson explained: “Bags of Help is our local grant scheme where the money raised from the government’s 5p bag charge is being used to fund a large number of local projects to create or improve green spaces in communities’ right across England, Scotland and Wales.”

“These range from building new parks and sports facilities, to woodland walks and community gardens: great places for our customers, colleagues and communities to enjoy.”

The Friends of Manor Gardens will be using the funding to create a new Crosses Pen Green Trail with outdoor fitness equipment for the public to use.

West Hunstpill School is to create an outdoor classroom and learning space for its pupils to get involved with nature.

The group Seed Of Hope in Bridgwater will open a new Spring Orchard with improved access aimed at mental health patients.

We reported earlier this month that Tesco customers in Burnham were able to vote for their choice of the three local groups by entering a counter into a collecting pot.

Applications for round two will open on Monday, 18th April here.
