A clean-up operation was launched by council cleaners in Burnham-On-Sea’s Pier Street car park on Sunday (May 1st) after a group of travellers finally left after spending nine days at the site.

The dozen vehicles – including caravans, cars and horse boxes – were parked on spaces at the far southern end of the car park and left mid-afternoon on Sunday.

The group began arriving at the car park just off The Esplanade on April 22nd and were served with legal papers to move by Sedgemoor District Council.

The council, which owns the car park, launched a clean-up operation on Sunday afternoon, saying “a fair quantity of rubbish was left in hedges and in the grass around the bottom end of the car park.”
