Legal action is set to begin in a bid to move a new group of travellers who have set up camp in a Burnham-On-Sea car park this week.

The group of eight vans and motorhomes plus several horse boxes moved into the Pier Stret car park on the town’s seafront on Tuesday (July 12th).

Sedgemoor District Council has begun legal action to try and get the travellers to move on.

Sedgemoor District Council spokesman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are aware of the travellers in Pier Street car park and are preparing notices requiring them to vacate.”

“If they fail to do so we will issue court proceedings. Because of the requirements to give them notice of the hearing the likely hearing date will be the middle of next week.”

It comes just weeks after several groups of travellers have pitched up in Burnham this summer – at the BASC sports ground, on the seafront, and in the same car park.
