Burnham-On-Sea area warned of heavy rain by Met Office forecasters

-

Residents in the Burnham-On-Sea area have been warned to expect more heavy rain and winds on Monday (November 21st) which will create difficult driving conditions and potential localised flooding.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for the Burnham area, as a front of heavy, persistent rain moves in from the Atlantic.

Around 20-30 mm of rain may fall, with as much as 40-60 mm possible locally through the whole of Monday, say forecasters.

Strong northeasterly winds will also develop for a time giving gusts of 40-50 mph.

Andy Page, a Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Following periods of heavy rain, a further broad area of heavy, persistent rain will extend across southwestern England on Monday.”

“Around 20-30 mm of rain is expected to fall in a three to six-hour period in places, with as much as 40-60 mm possible locally through the whole of Monday. The ground has been left very wet from Saturday night’s rain and this increases the risk of further flooding.”

“The band of rain affecting parts of southern England and Wales on Monday will extend to northern England later on Monday and into Tuesday morning.”
