The winners of Burnham and Highbridge’s annual Christmas lights competition have received their prizes this week.

The winners were invited along to a meeting of the Town Council this week to receive their cups and prizes from the councillors who judged the contest.

Cllrs Paul Young and Martin Cox visited scores of displays across the two towns last month before picking the winners. In Burnham, the best house award went to Andy and Liz Gardner at 10 Rectory Road while the runner-up was Fay Donnellan at 52 Broadhurst Gardens. In Highbridge, the best house award went to Sharon Bowcott at 25 Smith Way with the runner-up Darren Bird at 25 South Avenue.

The award for the best group of illuminated houses went to Wordsworth Close in Burnham. First place in the best-decorated business category, judged by Kate Lawson and John Parkes, went to Secret World in Burnham’s Victoria Street, while the runner-up was Back 2 Bikes at 15 Market Street in Highbridge.

A spokeswoman added: “The Town Council were pleased there were more entries than ever in 2015 and thank those who took part.”
