Burnham-On-Sea author Ann Poole has published her first book, a collection of beach-themed children’s stories.

Ann, from South Street in Burnham, first began writing the book when her grandson Jack was a young boy and she told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that she’s delighted with the final publication, called Beach Friends.

“I first had the idea of writing a children’s book over 20 years ago and, through the encouragement of others, I have finally decided to take the plunge and self-publish it,” she said.

The book features five creatures that youngsters could spot on a trip to the beach. It was inspired by visits that Ann took to Burnham-On-Sea beach with young jack when he was a boy.

“It’s a collection of fun, short stories aimed at 3 to 7 year olds. The book tells of beach friends such as Starfish Seahorse and Crab who meet and have adventures on the beach.”

“Starfish watches young children surfing, Seahorse meets Shrimp in a rock pool and they talk about Shrimp’s adventures in the sea. There is even a tale about a Crab who has a ride on a donkey.”

Published by New Generation, the book has been distributed to several publishing outlets such as Amazon here. The hardback is priced £14.99, the paperback is £8.99 and the Kindle edition is £4.99. The book is also on sale at Burnham-On-Sea’s GW Hurley’s in the town’s High Street.
