TODAY: Burnham-On-Sea to mark Armed Forces Day with parade

A parade of local service charities and cadet groups will take place through Burnham-On-Sea town centre today (Saturday, June 24th) to mark Armed Forces Day.

The parade along the High Street will be followed by a flag-raising ceremony.

Co-ordinated by local armed forces organisations, several cadet cores will be taking part with the aim of raising awareness of Armed Forces Day.

The various groups will assemble for the parade at the rear of The Princess Theatre in Princess Street at 12.30pm.

The parade will then move through town, arriving at the flag pole at the junction of Pier Street and Old Station Approach at around 1pm when a short act of remembrance will take place.

The Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) will also be hold their annual Brew For The Few coffee event at The Railway pub during the day.

A shop and business window competition will also be held, overseen by Burnham Chamber of Trade, with a trophy being awarded to the most patriotic display. Town centre shops do not need to enter the competition to be judged.

It will be judged by the President of the Royal Air Forces Association, Ex-Wing Commander John Bryan and the Mayor Bill Hancock and there is a large cup to be awarded to the best dressed window.
