Dozens of residents in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge took part in poignant ceremonies to mark Armistice Day and commemorate the anniversary of the end of World War One on Saturday (November 11th).

The traditional two-minute silence at 11am marked the time when hostilities ended in 1918.

It was observed in Burnham’s Pier Street, pictured here, where the town flag was lowered during a special ceremony, led by Rev Graham Witts.

It was attended by Royal British Legion members, town councillors and residents.

The silence, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, represents the moment when all guns stopped at the end of World War I.

Highbridge War Memorial trustees also held a service of remembrance besides the town’s Memorial Garden at Southwell House, conducted by Rev Sharon Crossman.
