Burnham-On-Sea’s traditional August Bank Holiday Monday summer fete is to be ‘bigger than ever’ when it returns to the town’s Manor Gardens, say organisers.

The event – run by community group Burnham Events Social Team – will be held from 11am-4pm.

The Town Crier will open the fete at 11am and there will be entertainment during the day, starting at 11.30am with a martial arts display by B-Elite; then Burnham Youth Choir at 12.30pm followed by the Seaside Strummers ukelele band at 1.15pm. Burnham on Song Senior Choir will be the final entertainment from 2.30pm.

Nora Hayes, Secretary at BEST, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The fete is a tradition in the town and people were delighted last year that the fete could carry on after The Friends of Burnham Hospital decided they did not want to continue organising it.”

“A number of local charities and groups benefit from the fete and despite all of the hard work that is involved everyone enjoys it.”

“It is a great way for the community to get together. We are hoping that this year the fete will be even bigger and better.”

“There are numerous local groups such as Sensational Kids; Hands of Change; Somerset Time for Youth and Somewhere House who are having stalls as well as national charities such as the W I, Lions; Moose and Rotary Club.”

“There will be numerous opportunities for people to try their luck and win prizes, The childrens area has been expanded to accommodate a bouncy castle; hook a duck; ring the bell, popcorn; candy floss and a Toss Olaf game.”

“As has always been the case there will be a tea tent and other food stands. Burnham on Sea Socialites will be selling a selection of scrummy home made cakes.”

“As it looks like it’s going to be a hot one, the Ritz bar will be there and Marc Lynham’s ice cream bike.”

“Can we take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us and given up their time and worked hard to bring this event to the town.”

Other BEST events coming up include a 1960’s night on 23rd September at The Ritz; The Blitz night at The Ritz on 18th Nov and the skating rink opening on 16th December. A clairvoyant evening at the Ritz is also being planned for October.
