Burnham-On-Sea beach clean recovers some unusual finds

A laminated City and Guilds certificate, a rowing boat oar and a plastic inflatable seat were among the unusual finds found washed up during a beach clean in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (November 4th).

20 sackfuls of rubbish were collected from the River Brue estuary and southern end of Burnham beach by volunteers from the Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Beach.

Organiser Mark Hollidge told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "In typically blustery conditions a team of 16 - including four newcomers - made short work of the debris spread along the River Brue Estuary."

"A total of 20 waste bags were filled and amongst the more unusual 'finds' were a laminated City and Guilds certificate for Sport and Recreation from 2002, a 10 foot length of pipe and a well preserved oar from a rowing boat. We will try to find the other oar and the boat next time!"

The Friends of Burnham Beach was started in September 2016 and has undertaken 12 cleans in that time.
