Sixteen sackfuls of rubbish were collected when the Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Beach held their latest beach clean on Saturday (May 20th) – and their efforts were filmed by ITV News.

The volunteers were undaunted by heavy rain as they scoured the banks of the River Brue near the Sailing Club to remove large amounts of rubbish.

The group’s Mark Hollidge told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “In spite of the inhospitable weather conditions we had 13 volunteers working on the river banks, including three for the first time.”

“We managed to fill 16 bags of rubbish, mostly consisting of small items of plastic but somehow or other two large heavy concrete blocks also found their way onto the river banks.”

ITV West Country News also filmed the group at work and their work will be featured in an upcoming bulletin.
