Volunteers are being sought to join in a monthly community beach clean-up in Burnham-On-Sea this Saturday (March 11th).

The event, organised by The Friends of Burnham Beach, will run from 10am-12pm and will meet at the town’s Sailing Club.

The group’s fifth beach clean will again focus on the beach along the mouth of the River Brue.

Organiser Mark Hollidge, who is overseeing the clean-up, said members of the public are welcome to come along and get involved.

“Recent high tides have washed up a large amount of litter on the banks of the river, most of it plastic, making the place look very messy.”

“This was an area which we almost completely cleared last time. We will concentrate on the area between the entrance to Apex Park and the mouth of the estuary.”

“Last time we had a team of 21 volunteers and we welcome people to come down and help us out this time. Please dress appropriately for what are likely to be rather muddy conditions.”

All equipment is provided. Please note that for insurance reasons children under the age of 5 years are not allowed to participate and all children over 5 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
