New Berrow Parish Council clerk appointed to take on vacant role

-

Berrow Parish Council has appointed a new Parish Clerk to replace Lynn Smith, who retired last month after 15 years in the role.

John Augustus, pictured, has taken on the position and was welcomed by councillors at their latest meeting.

John told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I have lived in the area for some 15 years now and live with my husband Terry. I have served in the Royal Air Force and have been a Local Government employee for over 17 years within Social Services Finance.”

“I decided I wanted to be a part of the local community and to be able to use my skills and knowledge to put something back into the area in which I lived.”

“I was already doing this by being a member of the Brean & Berrow Residents’ Association and joint editor of the local “Coastline” Magazine with my husband Terry, but I wanted more.”

“So I decided to apply for the position of Berrow Parish Clerk and luckily I was successful.”

“I am taking over from Lynn Smith who has been Parish Clerk for some 15 years and has done an excellent job and who has supported the community in many more ways than just being the Parish Clerk.”

“She will be sorely missed and a hard act to follow, but I hope that I will be able to continue the good work that Lynn has been doing and hopefully I will be of great support both to the Councillors in carrying out their duties as well as being a great support to the parishioners.”
