Burnham United FC receive ‘truly overwhelming support’ after burglary

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s football club, Burnham United AFC, has thanked the local community for its “truly overwhelming support” after a burglary on Tuesday morning.

As we first reported, thieves broke into the Burnham football club’s building in Cassis Close, stealing valuable items and cash – and leaving a trail of damage.

A club spokesman said last night: “As a club we would like to thank everyone for their messages of support and offers of help over the last 24 hours. It has been truly overwhelming.”

Matt Counsell, Chairman, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The support we’ve received locally and from right across the south west has just been amazing since the break-in, with messages from as far afield as Newquay and Lyme Regis. We will get everything sorted and will come back stronger than ever.”

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them after the raid at around 5.30am on Tuesday (December 19th).

The intruders gained access through the rear of the building, causing significant damage to the shutter on the back door.

“They stole a Philips 54-inch TV, a Sharp 56-inch TV, smashed both the jukebox and fruit machine, taking money from inside, emptied the float from the till as well as the penny jar.”

“It is gutting that anyone could do this to the club and it is a kick in the teeth to all the volunteers who give up their time to run it.”

Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Burnham-On-Sea Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 5217288797.

A large screen television attached to the wall of the clubhouse was among the items stolen – with only the bracket remaining
