Burnham-On-Sea Carnival celebrates 70th year at Presentation Night

-

The 70th anniversary of Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea Carnival was marked during the event’s annual presentation evening on Saturday night (January 21st).

Over 200 people crowded into The Oaktree in Highbridge to see more dozens of trophies and shields handed out to the winners of November’s parade by Carnival Chairman Phil New, President Malcolm Borland and queen Hannah Sainsbury.

The committee, pictured above, were thanked for their work over the years in continuing to make the annual spectacle such a success.

Members of Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club had a great night, receiving six awards for their successful space-themed cart ‘Reach 4 The Stars’.

The Spirit Of Carnival Award – given to the individual that has shown the true spirit of carnival – was presented to Andy Bennett to recognise his family’s support of the carnival over the decades.

Phil New, Chairman of Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Committee, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a great night when clubs from across Somerset came together to look back at a super year – it was a special one for us in Burnham’s 70th year.”
