Burnham-On-Sea fire crew dismantles car dashboard to rescue cat

-

A cat has used up one of its nine lives after being rescued by kind-hearted Burnham-On-Sea firefighters when it became trapped inside a car’s dashboard for several days.

Crews were called to East Brent at the weekend where the car owner had raised the alarm after realising the animal had become stranded.

“The cat had got into the car and crawled under the plastic dashboard via the steering column – it was well and truly stuck, and unable to move,” fire service spokesman Paul Slaven told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Our crews were called to help free the animal. After liaising with the RSPCA, we carried out the delicate operation to remove it.”

“Crews used small tools to take apart the car’s dashboard and eventually release the cat, which was unharmed by the ordeal. It was returned to its relieved owner.”

The unique incident unfolded in East Brent on Saturday after the car owner raised the alarm after smelling the animal inside her vehicle.

Paul added: “This was an unusual incident – it’s very rare for a cat to get stuck like this inside a vehicle and it shows the wide range of work that our crews do.”
