Burnham-On-Sea theatre hosts unique underground photo exhibition

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre is hosting a unique exhibition of photographs featuring underground scenes.

Mary Thompson’s display of ‘Caverns Measureless to Man’ is on show in the theatre’s Arts Lounge until Saturday 14th October (with the hours of 10am-3pm Tuesday to Saturday).

“In her photography Mary has tried to explore both the macrocosm and the microcosm. A tiny cave rock pool can appear like the lakes and cliffs of the world above,” says a spokesperson.

“In Wookey Hole and Cheddar she discovered vastness and infinity in a labyrinth of caves and passages. She found a subterranean world which encompassed both the infinite and the infinitesimal and then she created an infinity of patterns, digitally.”

“In mirroring the caves, she found a symmetry which made forms. The mind makes these patterns into creatures from mythology, with angels and demons peopling the cave walls.”
