A new shop selling a wide range of high-quality gifts has opened in Burnham-On-Sea town centre this week.

Crafty Comforts has launched in the High Street, filling a vacant premises near the junction of Cross Street.

Run by business partners Melinda and Francesca Urch, pictured here, it’s already proving popular.

Melinda told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve been involved in craft making for several years and used to go to craft markets, but they are always so weather dependent.”

“We wanted a premises in a busy coastal town and when we saw an opportunity to open here in Burnham High Street we took it. We have already had lots of interest and support from shoppers, which is great.”

Driftwood boats using wood collected on local beaches are among its range, plus hand-made bunting, personalised bottles, and hand-made baby clothes.

The shop’s shelves are also filled with colourful picture frames, jewellery, shopping bags, confectionery and early Christmas decorations.

Melinda says she is also looking for more local suppliers of hand-made crafts and gifts to get in touch.

The new shop is open seven days a week over the summer holiday period, from 9am-5pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and 10am-4pm on Sundays. Autumn opening times are to be decided.

Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade welcomed the shop’s opening, with a spokesman adding: “It’s great to see this new business opening and further expanding the range of independent shops we have in our town centre. We wish Melinda and Francesca every success.”
