Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea were called to a serious accident early today (Saturday) in which a car left a road and rolled over, trapping the driver inside.

Burnham firefighters were called to the A371 Cheddar Road in Axbridge shortly after 12.30am.

A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We received a request from the ambulance to assist them after reports of a road traffic collision.”

“One fire appliance from Cheddar, one from Burnham-On-Sea and an Operational Assurance Officer were sent to the location.”

“On arrival, crews confirmed this was a single vehicle incident where the vehicle had rolled and was on its roof, trapping the male driver inside. The rescue tender from Glastonbury was requested to attend.”

“Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment for space creation to enable Ambulance crews to get better access to the casualty.”

“The male was released from the vehicle using hydraulic cutting equipment. Lighting and the winch was used to right the vehicle before crews made the area safe.”

“The male casualty was handed over to paramedics and duty of care was left with the Police.”

It was a busy night for local fire crews, who were also called to tackle a big barn blaze near Burnham-On-Sea.
