Coastguards called out after 'dog' sighting on Stert Island
Coastguards were called out on Monday afternoon after a member of
the public thought they'd spotted a dog on Stert Island.
animal had been seen several times, with no sign of the owners -
however, it turned out to be something different!
we arrived on scene it was quickly established that the 'dog' in
question was our old friend Mr Fox," said Coastguard Officer
regular visitor to Stert Island, he forages for the goodies that
this small island provides, and ventures over at low tide for a
good look around."
get called out a few times a year for this, but we always go along
to be sure that it isn't anything untoward. This ensures that there
is no one in danger as it is better to be safe than sorry."
is reassuring to know we have such eagle-eyed members of the public
- it is a good spot from that distance without any binoculars."
are always happy to attend and grateful that people are willing
to take the time to report something that may be a person in danger
along the coast."
time, we decided against going over to Stert Island to issue safety
advice to Mr Fox as he is a regular visitor and knows the terrain
and avoids the danger areas. This was a good call with good intent."
