Busy 2017 programme of events for Burnham-On-Sea is unveiled

A busy programme of more than 100 community events is to be held in Burnham-On-Sea during 2017, it has been announced this week as local organisers met to agree the dates for a joint guide.

Burnham’s new 2017 programme of events is available to download here and was agreed during a meeting of event organisers on Tuesday evening, overseen by Burnham’s Tourism Manager Ian Jefferies.

Ian said he was pleased with the schedule: “The meeting was successful and productive – we had a good turnout of organisers and it’s great that everyone is pooling together their expertise to avoid event clashes.”

Scores of family events are set to be held over the next 12 months on the beach, in the town centre and in local parks for residents and visitors.

Highbridge’s long-running Festival of the Arts will be held at The Princess Theatre in Burnham from February 13th-18th March. The 70th annual event will see hundreds of entrants from across the south west competing.

Two Burnham-On-Sea Food & Drink Festivals, right, will be held during 2017, on 27th May and on October 21st, with plenty of tasty treats on offer to visitors.

And Burnham’s popular Beer Festival also returns to the town’s Ritz Social Club from April 28th -1st May.

For children, Burnham will host a Busy Beach Day on 25th June and July 30th. There will also be numerous fun-packed events on the beach over the summer, including a Backalong Avalon medieval event on 23rd July, plus a Pirate Day on 3rd September.

Sedgemoor District Council’s hugely-popular annual Sedgemoor Play Day will be held at Apex Park on 2nd August when crowds of families will descend on the park for a day of fun.

Burnham’s annual ‘Escape Day’ emergency services day on the seafront, right, which is overseen by BARB and involves scores of groups, will be held on Sunday August 27th.

The summer season will be rounded off with a Kite Festival on Burnham’s beach on 9th and 10th September.

The 2017 Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Weekend will get underway with a dazzling fireworks display on the beach on Sunday 5th November, ahead of the big parade through the town on Monday November 6th.
