Stuck goat dies after falling from cliff ledge on Brean Down

-

A goat which was stranded on cliffs at Brean Down for several weeks has died in a fall.

A spokesman from the National Trust confirmed that one of the two stuck goats had been freed from a rock ledge, but the other had died.

The body was found at the bottom of the cliffs on Friday morning (September 1st).

The spokesman said: “We have been working with the RSPCA for a number of weeks to try to rescue the two feral goats who managed to get stuck on the cliffs.”

“The RSPCA has attended twice and were due to come back early next week to attempt a rescue. It last visited on August 29th to make a final assessment.”

The trust said the location and height of the cliffs made the rescue a difficult one which required “careful planning” and trained rope experts.

The spokesman added everyone is saddened with the outcome.
