He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s a lovely flat course and I’m delighted to have won here after a year out for injury. Burnham’s half marathon is a great race that’s very well organised.”

Close behind in second spot with a time of 1:19:55 was Ian Connock while third was Darren Stacey from Weston-super-Mare in a time of 1:21:01 – all three are pictured above.

Race director Stuart Anderson told Burnham-On-Sea.com the race had gone “very smoothly” and that he was pleased that the threatened severe weather had stayed away.

After a warm-up session, the starting gun was fired at 11am at Burnham’s BASC Ground to sound the start of the 13-mile run.

The runners headed out along Love Lane and Queen’s Drive, before turning left along the A38 towards Brent Knoll and then on to East Brent, Lympsham, Wick Road and Red Road, before returning to Burnham via Berrow Road.

The weather stayed overcast and breezy and dry for the event despite an earlier forecast threatening of severe weather.

Scores of local Burnham-On-Sea runners took part, including Burnham Harriers, pictured above. The club’s first finisher was James Gadd in 1:32:16.

A one-mile fun run for younger runners saw a dozen children taking part over the shorter course at the BASC Ground.
