This car ended upside down in a ditch following a crash at an accident blackspot near Burnham-On-Sea this week.

The driver of the smart car lost control while driving along Harp Road between Brent Knoll and the village of Mark soon after 8am on Tuesday morning (January 24th).

Police said the shaken driver managed to escape from the upturned vehicle without serious injuries.

Thick fog and icy weather have been creating hazardous driving conditions this week overnight and during the early morning hours. Another crash occurred in Highbridge on Monday night, as we reported here. A car and minibus also collided in Burnham’s Cross Street on Tuesday morning with no injuries.

Harp Road has seen scores of accidents in recent years, with many vehicles ending up in roadside ditches, prompting some motorists to say that extra safety measures are needed while others argue that excessive speed is to blame.

Somerset County Council’s highways team has previously been asked to consider extra road markings and barriers along several stretches.
