Over 100 homes were without power in the Burnham-On-Sea area on Sunday morning (December 10th) after high winds and heavy rain swept in, causing damage.

70mph gusts of wind hit the area, bringing down power lines and trees, and damaging fences and street lights.

110 properties in the village of Mark, near Burnham-On-Sea, lost power following the storm, confirmed Western Power Distribution.

Heavy rain also caused minor flooding on local roads, with motorists having to take extra care on the Tesco roundabout in Burnham-On-Sea (pictured above) and in South Road, Brean, where there were large pools of standing water.

Somerset County Council was called out to repair several wind-damaged street lights along Burnham-On-Sea’s Esplanade, as pictured below.

Several small trees were brought down by the winds, and fences were damaged – included the one pictured below in Burnham’s Stoddens Road.

Forecasters from the Met Office issued a yellow warning in advance of the weather.

Later in the day, snow arrived in Burnham-On-Sea as we first reported.
