Scores of supporters of The Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Hospital attended a successful fundraising garden party on Sunday (July 16th), raising over £1,300.

Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Bill and Frances Hancock, opened the event in the hospital grounds alongside a special VIP guest, as pictured above.

Chairman Bernard Spilsbury told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a superb afternoon that raised a superb amount and we were especially delighted to welcome 90-year-old Theresa Bromham to the event.”

“She’s a former nursing auxillary at the hospital who originally started the hospital fete 51 years ago! She loved coming back for her visit and told us of her memories and experiences.”

“The event hasn’t been held here at the hospital for many, many years, but it was such a success that we’re hoping it will now become a regular event again.”

Visitors enjoyed cream teas, a bottle stall, cake stall, table top sale, craft making, face painting and a raffle, raising a grand total of £1,375.

Friends spokeswoman Ceri Joyce addede: “It was a wonderful afternoon – we had such a good turnout that there were queues for the cream teas and the bottle stall needed replenishing mid-afternoon! Our thanks go to everyone who came along and supported us.”

Funds raised will go towards further improving the facilities at the Love Lane hospital.

The Friends’ next fundraiser will be held on 4th August and is a quiz night at The Ritz Social Club. Open to teams of six, it opens at 7.45pm for an 8.30pm start with enrtry just £1.00 per person.
