Burnham-On-Sea motorists and pedestrians urged to take care in ice

-

Motorists and pedestrians have been urged to take extra care today (Monday) as snow and ice create slippery conditions in the Burnham-On-Sea area.

Police and the Met Office have urged residents to take extra care after freezing temperatures in the Burnham area overnight.

Burnham saw snowfall during Sunday and while main routes into Burnham and Highbridge have been gritted by Somerset County Council, side roads are not treated and may be slippery.

A yellow warning for ice is in place in our area today. A Met Office spokesman said: “Ice is expected to form across many places overnight.”

“Some injuries are likely from slips and falls on icy surfaces as well as icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. As well as this lying snow from Sunday will continue to be a hazard.”

Today, the Met Office predicts temperatures in Burnham-On-Sea will not rise above 3°C, but it will feel more like -5°C in the brisk wind.

Further icy conditions are forecast for the Burnham area this evening into Tuesday.

It comes after heavy rainfall and 70mph winds caused disruption in the Burnham-On-Sea area on Sunday morning. Snow fell locally from around 1pm on Sunday and coated lawns and some pavements, as pictured here. The snow made Burnham-On-Sea’s Trinity Close Christmas lights ‘magical’.
