When Burnham-On-Sea newlyweds Patrick and Amelia Barber were considering a theme for their wedding blessing, there was one stand-out choice.

For Patrick is the instructor of Berrow’s Kung Fu classes and Master of the local Fei Lung Kwan group.

So a Fei Lung Kwan guard of honour consisting of past and present students, including Patrick’s son – and ‘best man’ – Harrison, plus instructors, was arranged outside Berrow Church.

“All the students and instructors said it was a great honour to participate in this guard of honour,” said Patrick.

“Comments included that it was a unique idea that they had not seen before and that it was a great moment to be part of the guard of honour for the master of the society and his wife. They also said how excited they were about it!”

He added that the reception was due to be held at the Battleborough Grange Hotel at Brent Knoll but due to the hotel’s recent liquidation that was not possible.

Patrick added: “With the great help of Ange Eldridge from the Battleborough Grange we were able to find a new venue, plan and cater for the reception afterwards.”

“Ange was a massive help to us and was instrumental in making our day a wonderful one. Kate and Dan, the new lease holders of the Battleborough Grange hotel, expressed their disappointment at our loss of venue and not being ready to host the event, but offered the use of equipment and anything else we needed.”

“Their help and support was greatly appreciated and we would like to wish them every success in their new venture.”

Patrick and Amelia Barber got married in Cancun, Mexico in June and had their wedding blessing at St Mary’s Church in Berrow last weekend.
