Somerset residents had a final chance to say goodbye to a soon-to-be retired Royal Navy helicopter on Friday (March 17th) which has been a familiar sight in the skies over the Burnham-On-Sea area.

To mark the official decommissioning of the Mk8 Lynx helicopter after 41 years of operation a farewell flypast took place on Friday.

The four helicopters flew from Yeovilton over Glastonbury Tor and then close to Brent Knoll on their way to Weston Helicopter Museum before heading off towards Devonport over the Bristol Channel to other destinations across the south.

The Lynx Mk8 is due to go out of service on March 31st. It is being replaced by the new Augusta Westland AW159 Wildcat helicopter.
