A Burnham-On-Sea family is set to make history when four members compete for Great Britain at the World Triathlon Championships at the same time this autumn.
The Rogers are set to put the Brownlee brothers in the shade when father Martin, 50 and his daughters Charlotte, 22, and Tabby, 21, and son Oscar, 17, head for the contest in Rotterdam during September.
They will be competing with top athletes from around the world, swimming 750 metres, running 5km and cycling 20km.
Martin, who works at Burnham’s Swim and Sports Academy, has competed for Team GB seven times and last year won the British Championships.
All three youngsters have been training for triathlons since they were young and have worked as lifeguards at the pool while pursuing sporting careers.
“They are all very talented, I’m so proud of them. We are all very competitive, we will be competing with the best in the world, but it actually brings us together,” Martin told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“I know it will be hard but we are all so determined to do well.”
He added that he has spoken with the organisation overseeing the sport to find out if a family has competed in this way before.
“They said that having four members of the same family is quite unique and it could be the first time.”
“There has been lots of media interest in what we are doing – we were featured on BBC Points West this week and have been in the national press too.”
The girls will be in the same race and their father and brother will be in different ones due to their age brackets.
Martin added: “I have been doing triathlons for 25 years and this will be my seventh time competing for GB.”
“The kids have all followed in my footsteps. They are sport mad. We try and train together when we can. My wife, Alison, is the only one who doesn’t compete, but she’s in our support crew and is training to be a sports masseuse.”
