Members of Highbridge’s Monarchs Gymnastics Club achieved some great results at the British Acrobatic Gymnastics Tournament 2017 at the weekend.

A group of seven gymnasts from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge travelled to Stoke on Trent for the annual event, which saw clubs from all over the country competing.

Joe Blake and Kian Hawkes won silver medals in the 11-16 mens pairs category after two excellent routines.

Emmy Dymond, Casey House and Gina Cumberlidge also had a very good competition, finishing in 8th place after 2 routines in the 12-18 women’s group category. This was the last time the trio will compete together, as Emmy has now retired to concentrate on her A-Levels and then University later in the year.

Heather Reed and Olivia Reed competed together in their first major competition and after two routines, finishing in 10th place in the 11-16 women’s pairs category.

The club’s Mandy Warburton said: “As a result of this competition, we had some amazing news that the two boys, Joe and Kian, have been selected for the GB 11-16 development squad at Lilleshall at the end of March. Only 10 partnerships have been selected in the whole of Great Britain to attend this weekend and so it is a great achievement for the club.”

She added: “We have been invited to compete in the Flanders Cup in Belgium at the beginning of April and Joe and Kian will be taking part in that competition alongside seven of their teammates from Monarchs, a women’s group and two women’s pairs. There are exciting times ahead!”
