Burnham-On-Sea fire crews tackle big property blaze near Wedmore

-

Plumes of smoke were seen for miles around when Burnham-On-Sea’s fire crew was among dozens of firefighters tackling a big blaze near Wedmore on Thursday (May 25th).

Crews were called to the property at Mudgley Cross Roads in Mudgley Lane, Mudgley at mid-day.

The fire had started in a shed and quickly spread to a semi-detached two-storey building with two large central heating oil tanks.

Fire appliances from Cheddar and Glastonbury were initially sent to the scene, followed by further appliances from Street, Bridgwater, Wells, Burnham-On-Sea, Castle Cary and Taunton.

“A semi detached 2 storey building was confirmed fully involved on fire. Crews got to work with a safety jet, a compressed air foam jet, two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus wearers,” said a spokesman.

“By 1.30pm, good progress was being made and the incident was ‘sectorised’ into three sectors.”

“An ambulance was also sent to the scene to allow four firefighters to be assessed by paramedics for heat exhaustion.”

“By 3.30pm, the fire had spread within the property, causing damage to both properties left and right, however, the fire was now under control.”

Crews then started damping it down and ensuring it did not re-ignite.
