news for Burnham-On-Sea motorists: parking charges are frozen
parking charges will not be going up over the coming year as a 'freeze'
comes into effect, it has been confirmed this week.
District Council has decided to hold the current charges in its
pay and display car parks during the new financial year, which starts
spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The charges
went up last April. Since the charges can only go up in increments
of 10p, because the machines do not take smaller coinage, any increase
would equate to a very large percentage rise for the shortstay
charges, much more than the rate of inflation."
She added: "We have a policy that charges go up by the rate
of inflation, but it is impractical and expensive to do it on an
annual basis when inflation rates are low."
Pier Street car park charges will therefore remain at 40p for 30
minutes' parking, 80p for an hour, and £1.60 for two hours.
High Street car park, off Lynton Road, offers the same charges,
plus four hours parking at £3.50 and all day for £5.50.
