Council apologises for Burnham seafront ‘winter parking fees’ error

-

Somerset County Council has quashed concerns that it is planning to introduce winter parking charges along Burnham-On-Sea seafront.

It comes after a new parking machine was installed on The Esplanade this week that displays a “winter tariff,” even though winter parking has been free for several years.

The machine states that four hours winter parking will cost £1 between October 1st and 31st March.

Burnham-On-Sea.com contacted Somerset County Council – which oversees parking along The Esplanade – to check whether new charges are being introduced.

But spokesman Peter Elliott told us: “The new machine in question replaced a previous machine that was no longer functioning. Unfortunately, the wrong tariff card has been used by our contractor but we will arrange for it to be replaced.”

He added: “There are currently no plans to introduce winter charging along the seafront in Burnham-On-Sea.”

“Any proposals in the future will be clearly advertised and only implemented after any objections, comments or concerns have been considered.”
