Two people have been arrested following an incident in Burnham-On-Sea at the weekend when a car was ‘driven erratically’ through the town with several ‘distressed’ children inside.

A 39 year-old woman and a 34 year-old man have been arrested in connection with this incident.

The 34-year-old from Birmingham has been charged with driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

He appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Monday (11th September). The woman was released under investigation.

Police said witnesses had reported seeing two or three girls in the back of the vehicle in a “distressed” state.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said the car had been seen driving through the town centre on Saturday at around 3.30pm, prompting an appeal to the public for more information, as we reported here.

Police expressed concern for the girls’ welfare and said they wanted to establish that they are safe and well. They are now happy that they are safe.
