Burnham-On-Sea Police hope to see ‘increase in officer numbers’

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Police hope to see an increase in the number of officers in the towns over coming months, it’s been revealed.

Sgt Ryan Edwards from Burnham-On-Sea Police, pictured, hinted at likely changes during a disussion during this month’s Town Council meeting.

He told councillors: “We are currently reviewing our neighbourhood policing plan and there will be changes and more news on this soon.”

“You should know that I am fighting hard for policing in the Burnham-On-Sea area and am doing all I can to increase – not a decrease – in the numbers of police here.”

Sgt Edwards went on to say that work has continued locally after a summer crime spree.

“We did have a number of burglaries over the summer which had a huge impact in the Burnham-On-Sea area.”

“These were mainly break-ins via back gardens, and opportunistic burglaries.”

“We put in some targeted work to address the issue and made two significant arrests, which is very positive. Those two cases are currently goimg through the courts.”
