Burnham-On-Sea theatre to host adventure-packed plays for families

-

An adventure-packed double bill of plays for all the family to enjoy are set to be performed ibn Burnham-On-Sea this Saturday afternoon (February 25th).

Award-winning theatre company AsOne are returning to The Princess Theatre in Burnham-On-Sea to perform The Fisherman’s Daughter Part I & II. The shows will be performed on Saturday at 2.30pm.

“Following their beautiful storytelling of The Passion and Tinderbox, AsOne return with this acclaimed production, aimed at children, but that all ages with enjoy thoroughly!” said Sam Nicol from The Princess.

“The Fisherman’s Daughter is an adventure-packed double bill of plays for all the family to enjoy with an unlikely hero, Harold, a joker of a one-legged seagull.”

“Using classical marine literature in an inspiring way; all ages have found this cleverly layered play enthralling.”

“Part one is ‘Sea-Monsters & Pirates’ as 10-year-old Jess worries about pirates, sea-monsters, and storms awaiting the return of her fisherman father. Then the colourful, Moira arrives with her one legged seagull friend, Harold and they go on a rollicking adventure.

“Part two is ‘Jess’s Odyssey’ as the Fisherman’s Daughter Jess loves reading but Homer’s Odyssey confuses her. Up pops a stranger, who just happens to have the same name as the author Homer, a Greek boy from a trawler in the harbour, who holds a very bedraggled one legged seagull he has rescued from the water. All three go on an Odyssey. But where is the missing librarian, Moira? A very fishy tale with a surprise ending!”

AsOne’s Artistic Director, Jane McKell, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The audiences love making the sounds of the storm, the waves, the wind, and seagulls; for each and everyone there are characters to empathise with.”

“One father said: ‘My daughter loved it. Even grumpy grandpas thought it was brill.’ It’s been a joy hearing families leave the theatre chatting away about what they have seen and enjoyed together.”

“All in all the play entertains hugely whilst encouraging the family to go away and look at classic maritime literature such as Treasure Island, Peter Pan, The Odyssey, The Mariner’s Tale, Moby Dick, The Little Mermaid, Moonfleet and many more.”

With funding from Arts Council of England, the original play was commissioned by Weymouth’s Leviathan Maritime Literary Festival in Easter 2016, and has already toured to packed libraries, and schools and theatres over the last two seasons.

Tickets are priced at Standard £10/Concessions £8/Chilren £5. Call The Box Office on 01278 784464 to reserve seats.
