Work to refurbish a popular social club in Burnham-On-Sea town centre has begun this week.

The Ritz Social Club in Victoria Street is giving its Gatsby Lounge Bar an overhaul as part of a modernisation project.

As the membership of the club has increased over the last 12 months, the decision has been made to create a larger area for members and their guests to enjoy.

The bar was built some 30 years ago and during this time the room has been used for many social events and meetings.

General Manager Paul Hale told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The refurbishment of this room is long overdue. The club has become a very popular meeting place and as a result we needed to create additional space for members to socialise in.”

“The refurbishment has already involved the moving of the existing bar to create more space.”

“There is a degree of plastering work that needs to be undertaken in addition to new ceiling and then new flooring and furniture.”

“We are hopeful the room will be completed within the next three weeks.”
