A Highbridge school has become one of Somerset’s only secondary schools to have a Pets As Therapy dog on its staff.

‘Mr Darcy’ took up his post at The King Alfred School in Highbridge and Burnham this term and is already proving extremely popular with students and staff.

The dog works with students to help with learning, and is fully-trained to help put children at ease.

He is fully trained with qualifications as a ‘Pets As Therapy’ dog.

Student Tali Knight, 11, pictured, said: “Mr Darcy is lovely and is really nice to have around the school.”

Headteacher Denise Hurr said: “Mr Darcy has been an amazing addition to our staff team and very popular with students.”
